Job Description
The prime focus for the Air Freight Team Supervisor is a hands-on role, overseeing all outbound and inbound shipments to ensure smooth transactions and 100% customer satisfaction.
You will take direction from and work closely with the Branch Manager.
In this position you will instruct and train the Operations Team in best practice and follow all policies as set out and directed by the company.
By regularly promoting a supportive team environment and cross training, you will be ensuring all import, exports and warehouse teams work cohesively together.

Job Responsibilities
Key Areas of Responsibility (Include but not limited to)
General:
Negotiate with the airlines to achieve the correct space allocation is gained for the uplift of freight.
Negotiate rates with airlines and overseas partners to secure business and maximize profits.
Run daily reports and work through outstanding files/open files with the service supplier on shipments blocked in transit.
Supervise the building of export pallets to maximize space and ensure correct packing and safe handling of all freight.
Participate in processing online quotes (full in-house training will be provided).
Promote and implement initiatives to increase export jobs and promote trade lanes.
Oversee the import processing function to ensure delivery of accurate documentation and invoicing to our customers.
Complete and action reconciliation reports before the invoicing process.
Provide support for the Sales team as required.
Cross sell all products!
Be ‘hands-on’ in the operations and support all staff in their daily activities as required.
On a weekly basis, monitor and ensure that all jobs are invoiced and costed accurately within 24 hours. (KPI)
Timely and professional response to all Claims using the Claims Policy and Procedures.
Advise your Reporting Manager immediately as to any significant claims issues. (KPI)
Delegate effectively to ensure consistent work output is achieved from all employees.
Ensure that all import flights on shift are completed and correctly closed in Freight PAC, including verifying piece counts, AWB discrepancies and unknown cargo status.
Coordinate staff, demonstrating abilities to effectively complete import/export flights within the specified service level agreements.
Ensure all import/export documents are correctly maintained including completing damage reports in Freight PAC and storing the corresponding photos on the warehouse folder
Perform dangerous goods acceptance checks and processes.
Be relief for team when necessary.
Provide on the job training for team members.
Warehouse:
Ensure all freight scheduled for departure is ready on time for lodgment with the airlines. Regularly liaise and update with warehouse on freight departure to airlines.
Monitor the import cargo movement, availability, retrieval and check in to ensure timely delivery of freight to our customers.
Monitor any damaged or surplus cargo. Investigate and action including any customs notification and claims action as required.
Ensure all import documents are received and completed in the correct manner, and subsequently stored in the correct location.
Perform duties which centre on ‘hands on’ activities in areas which are directly and indirectly associated with freight handling.
This includes receipts and dispatch, sort or breakdown of cargo to customer specifications.
Operate equipment and vehicles including forklifts in accordance with safe operating procedures.
Carry out established procedures ensuring freight is handled correctly including the loading and unloading of freight from ULD’s and vehicles.
Perform cargo security screening including operating screening equipment such as ETD and x-ray machines.
Ensure cargo irregularity reports are completed in Freightpac and respective photos taken.
Other duties as directed:
Communication and Customer service
Manage your team to action all email and telephone enquiries with a heightened urgency and eagerness.
Respond to all emails and telephone calls within 2 hours of receipt or earlier. (KPI)
Maintain effective and positive communications between warehouse and operations to ensure correct information flow as required.
Manage timely and accurate communications with customers on shipment delays/changes and reasons why.
Ensure customer complaints are dealt with in an effective and positive manner to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
Initiate and apply effective communication with employees, managers and customers.
Conduct regular meetings with team to ensure improved communications between individuals and departments.
Skills + Experience
Qualifications and Licences:
Essentials:
High School Certificate or equivalent. Without HSC or equivalent additional work experience to achieve equivalent is preferred.
Experience in Export/Import Operations with previous leadership experience preferred.
Current DG Acceptance, QAP and Aviation Security Acceptance qualifications
Special Job Requirements:
You will have a clear understanding of pallet sizes, weight restrictions and knowledge of weight balancing to anticipate daily volumes from pre-alerts.
In-depth knowledge of freight forwarding operations.
You will show strong management style and decision-making skills.
It is expected that much time and dedication will be required to successfully fulfill this position, so there is an expectation that overtime and weekend work will occur on a regular basis.
